Endowed Scholarships & Program Funds

Endowed Scholarships & Program Funds offered through the BVPS Education Foundation allow us to balance and expand our support to the BVPS Schools systemwide.

When making a gift to a specific funding area, you may choose to:

-Contribute to an existing Endowed Scholarship or Program Fund

-Contribute to a specific area of Academic Support

-Create and fund an Annual Scholarship or Academic Program Fund

-Create and fund a Permanently Endowed Scholarship or Program Fund

Currently, the Foundation offers naming opportunities for our Senior College Scholarship Program, newly established Annual Scholarships & Academic Program Funds, and newly established Permanently Endowed Scholarships & Program Funds. Donors establish a principal gift for the desired funding area and 4% of the invested annual return is used for the scholarship or program support. Principal gifts may be made in total, or funded over three years. Donors typically name funds for their family, an influential educator, a community advocate of exemplary service and impact, or create a memorial fund.

Current Permanently Endowed Funds:

Kristin Griffin Palmer Memorial Fund was established after Mrs. Griffin Palmer, her son Griffin Palmer, and her mother Nancy Griffin tragically lost their lives on Tuesday, February 25, 2014.  Mrs. Griffin Palmer worked for 21 years in the BVPS system teaching English at Virginia High School. Additionally, Mrs. Griffin Palmer served as sponsor and coach of the Virginia High School Drama Club. During the course of her teaching career, she received numerous awards of distinction. The “Kristin Griffin Palmer Memorial Fund” was created as a permanently endowed scholarship whose name and funding priorities are for outstanding drama students.

CP “Moe” Curcio Scholarship was established by the Curcio family to honor a senior student athlete that has demonstrated good character and sportsmanship on and off the field.  Students are nominated by the faculty for this award.  The student will receive a $500 monetary award and will have his/her name engraved on a plaque that will be displayed in the trophy case.

Janet Baxley Memorial Scholarship was established by her family to honor her long term tenure as a teacher, and Visiting Teacher for our School System.  The $500 scholarship in Janet’s memory, highlights her commitment to elementary education.  This scholarship will fund a new, innovative classroom endeavor to an elementary teacher.

Please contact the Foundation office for more information on establishing permanently-endowed named scholarships and program funds.
